Silke Markefka was born in Mühldorf am Inn in 1974. Today she lives and works in Munich. She studied painting as a student from Prof. Günther Förg at the academy of fine arts, munich and received her diploma there as a master student. In 2013 she was awarded the Villa Romana prize (2007) and the debutant support program of the BKK Munich (2010) together with the Bayrischen Kunstförderpreis.
Markefka often approaches a subject in series of paintings. Her motives have a memory like quality in which they seem to lucidly remember a moment of a long forgotten past. Regardless if she paints chandeliers, curtains, tunnels or flower still lives – the artist always holds concreteness and abstraction in suspense in her paintings.
