Heidi Sill was born in Fürth. Initially she studied textile art and surface design but changed later to the classes of Karl Georg Phaler and Rold-Gunter Dienst in order to study graphics and painting at the academy of fine arts Nürnberg. After she received her diploma she was granted with a project bursary and a travel grant to the USA. In 1994 she was awarded with the newcomer award of Bavaria. In 1995 she received a grant to study at the Institute des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques and hence moved to Paris in 1995. In 1999 she obtained the prestigious grant of the Konrad Adanauer Stiftungand because of her lectureship she worked at the Universität der Künste Berlin between 2012 and 2013. In 2014, like in 2000, she worked as a guest lecturer at the Ecole des Beaux ArtsValence. Her most important single exhibitions were the „Ähnliche Wirkungen“ exhibition in the Brandenburgischen Kunstverein Potsdam, the “la tentation du defaut” exhibition in the Centre d’Art Contemporain Istres in Marseille and “skins” in the Parisian Galerie Nicolas Silin. Heidi Sill lives and works in Berlin.
